Join us for a five-day DigiTales’ Storytelling 2010 Summer Camp! You do not need to be a high tech user or an accomplished storyteller to attend. This unique artistic learning retreat is being held in the Colorado Mountains just twenty miles from Estes Park. DigiTales’ Camp is designed to immerse paper-trained adults and kids in a personal digital storytelling experience that will leave them with a multitude of technical and communication skills as well as a perfect opportunity to renew individual or team spirit within the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

What
Life is quite simply full of stories! Begin by choosing a defining moment in your life that is a story that needs to be told. In our lives, there are moments, decisive moments, when the direction of our lives was shaped or reshaped. A major achievement, the time of a particularly bad setback, a decision made or not made, meeting a special person, the end of a relationship, a relationship with a family member, the death of a loved one, an unexpected challenging event, are all examples of these fork-in-the-road defining moments. Now is a fun and perfect time to claim your own defining moment story!
Each digital story (voice, images, and sound) uses a personal experience to develop a 3-5 minute digital living memory with a specific point, a moral, an a-ha awareness or a specific understanding that is told from the heart and not the head. Make sure the story you choose to tell develops your own thinking, spirit and viewpoint not just telling about the situation. How has your family’s history given meaning to or shaped your life? How did that defining moment or situation influence your thinking, beliefs, or life? Trust your own voice and unique approach to tell your stories. The magic is that if a story touches you -- then that is the story that needs to be told! And just think of the joy and insights your life story will give to all those who know you and all those who are yet to know you in future time.
When![]() We need to foster in others the same kind of awesome passion we found this week with our own stories - Robert |
Usually DigiTale’s Storytelling Camp is a three-day format. However the five-day summer format was designed to provide for both the in-depth digital storytelling creative work as well as personal time to enjoy the mountain camp and local area. CLICK here for DigiTale’s Summer Camp Visual Schedule.
- July 16-21, 2010
You will enjoy the breath-taking mountain drive up to Highland’s
Camp located in AllensPark, Colorado. We will learn and work together
in a brand new conference center featuring glass walled conference
rooms that over look the Rocky Mountains. The lodging rooms offer
a wide variety of choices from singles, family or joining spaces
to create team rooms. The newly built lodging rooms have sleeping
and sitting room with lots of rustic charm like the handmade quilts
sewn by a multitude of women’s church groups. Prices for
the week vary depending on number of people sharing a room. CLICK

Each storyteller is responsible to bring their own personal laptop (MAC and WIN platforms supported). Be sure to install and test the basic software identified for digital storytelling prior to camp week. Please be sure to have a wireless network card along with any specific utility disks or warranty phone contacts needed for any emergency situations that may occur. CLICK here for MAC Checklist. Review the Camper’s Invitation, Camp Agenda, and DigiTales’s book in order to maximize readiness for DigiTales’ Summer Storytelling Camp. Each storyteller needs to draft a one page (500 words or less) personal narrative unfolding a defining moment in their life. While we will have time and hardware to digitize images, memorabilia, and video on-site, prior preparation lessens the onsite work and increases personal time during camp.
Wear very casual, comfortable clothes. Even though it is summer, when the sun goes down the Rocky mountains can be chilly. Be prepared for warm days, cool days and wet days! Hiking, biking, horse-back riding, canoeing, volleyball, table games and adventure rock climbing may mean different clothes or the same clothes to you – use your own judgment. Any and all snacks are welcome but no alcohol is permitted on campgrounds. Smoking is not permitted in view of any minors. Please plan to drink LOTS of water to both avoid altitude sickness and to increase the creative function of your brain’s dendrites which specialize in receiving and transmitting information.
